James’ art practice within schools is extensive and varied. He runs workshops in a wide range of disciplines such as printmaking, bookbinding, set design for animation, collage and sculpture, often blending two or three of these into one project. Workshops can be adapted to any theme.
His own art practice being centered on printmaking and collage James gains inspiration from poetry and the landscape. He has extensive experience within the art department of the film and TV commercial industries.
James will travel anywhere and has a travelling studio in his well-equipped van (including A3 size traveling press).
Workshops with James always include a short history lesson, exercises, lots of examples and are both challenging and fun. James also offers training and development for teachers.
In 2010, James was one of two lead artists for Carclew's Big Journal - Big Draw Creative Education Partnership at Murray Bridge North Schools. The project went on to win the international Drawing Inspiration Award (The Campaign for Drawing, London, U.K.). James is also the 2012 Education and Arts Ministers' Award recipient for his work with South Australian students and teachers.
