Embrace Festival

Embrace is a new multi-platform disability arts festival developed by cabaret producer Diana Divine as part of their Emerging Creative Producer residency with Carclew’s “Sharehouse” program.

The festival aims to boost awareness and support for disabled artists across multiple platforms.

We are looking for expressions of interest from (self-identifying) artists or disability led artistic companies who have artistic work ready to present at one of the venues taking part in the Embrace Festival.

Program Dates

23-26 September with each work promoted through the festival program and supported by Carclew.

Festival Hub and Opening Night Gala: Carclew

Proceeds raised on the night will go straight back to all festival presenters to further their future artistic practice.

Accessible venues across Adelaide include: Sparkke at the Whitmore, Nexus Arts, Restless Dance Theatre and The Mill.

The selection panel will align the shows with the venues.

Who can apply?

Any (self-identifying) disabled artist or disability-led artistic company.

The festival will accept open EOIs, prioritising local works and presenters with intersecting marginalisations (eg IBPOC, Queer/LGBTQIA artists).

15 shows will be selected via a committee.

Section Criteria

  • Complete new or existing works in the form of performance, exhibitions, and events
  • Presented by disabled artists and/or disability-led organisation
  • No age restrictions
  • Selection based on existing access to funding, compounding marginalisation’s, venue suitability and variety of programming

Important dates

Expressions of Interest close Monday 4 July 2022.

Successful artists will be notified by COB Thursday 14 July 2022.

The Embrace program will be released on Friday 22 July 2022.

If you need any assistance in completing the EOI process, please contact producer Ruth Weldon, rweldon@carclew.org.au who will make time for a phone or in person meeting to go through the application process.
