Emerging South Australian artists Jasmine Crisp and Brianna Speight began their Artist in Residence roles at Carclew at the beginning of 2018. The opportunity offered by the Carclew Residency Program has enabled the two young artists to develop their practices and the freedom to create new bodies of work.
The SALA exhibition Form and Feeling, curated by Carclew Curator in Residence Gabrielle Lane, presents new work by Crisp and Speight, developed during their studio residencies. Opening Form and Feeling on 2 August is guest speaker, Eve Sullivan, editor of Artlink Magazine.
Grounded in autobiographical reflections, each artist employs tableaux painting or photography to unravel and reconstruct understandings of self. Both artists draw upon the materiality of their surroundings to convey aspects of themselves and those close to them. In this exhibition feeling is embodied by form.
