Its NAIDOC Week for 2022 and this year’s theme is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!
There’s plenty happening across the week and it’s a great time to reflect and really celebrate the resilience of First Nations people, and their rich cultural histories across the many diverse Aboriginal Nation Groups in SA and nationally.
For the past 25 years Carclew has been supporting First Nations artists and South Australian communities through our various programs and funding opportunities. In 2022 Carclew will be launching its next stretch Reconciliation Action Plan, a commitment to positioning Reconciliation centrally in all that we do.
Chief Executive Tricia Walton highlights: “For the past 25 years Carclew has proudly delivered programs focussed on First Nations children and communities across the state from the APY Lands to inner city.”
NAIDOC Week offers the chance to learn more about First Nation cultures and histories and get involved in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
This year Carclew is supporting the following events:
NAIDOC In The Mall: Riverstone and mini garden pot painting and symbols workshop led by Jay Milera (Kaurna, Narungga, Adnyamathanha, Wirangu), and supported by Sammy Kearney (Barkindji).
Date: 5 July, 10:00am-1:30pm, Rundle Mall, Adelaide CBD.
Dance Sessions in traditional and contemporary dance, led by Caleena Sansbury (Kaurna, Narungga, Ngarrindjeri) and Mel Koolmatrie (Ngarrindjeri), as part of the City of Adelaide’s NAIDOC Week celebrations. Share and celebrate culture through dance, create a fun choreography with the artists and get up and moving to inspiring First Nations music in this free, open access workshop.
