Carclew’s popular Holiday Camp is back at our stunning North Adelaide home! We’re offering a jam-packed program of creativity and adventure for ages 9-17, with workshops in VR, and music. Whether your child is a budding artist, or just looking to have some fun, there’s something for everyone.

We’re also excited to offer special music workshops for teens, where young musicians can explore and develop their talents in a creative, supportive environment.

VR Tower Quest – 15th and 16th April 2025

Looking for an exciting way to spend the school holidays? Look no further than VR Tower Quest at Carclew! This school holiday program is packed with adventure, creativity, and cutting-edge technology, giving you the chance to unleash your imagination like never before. 

 In this immersive experience, you’ll begin the day by designing your own unique characters, either starting from pre-made templates or crafting something completely original from your imagination. You’ll use Tinkercad, a 3D design tool, to bring your characters to life, developing exciting backstories and narratives, transforming your creations into active players in the virtual world. 

In the afternoon, you’ll upload your characters and stories, turning your characters into interactive creations ready for a VR adventure. With guidance from immersive technologist Cameron Coggins, you’ll learn how to navigate and manipulate your designs using the Oculus VR system, stepping into a fully immersive world where your characters can begin their quest inside the iconic Carclew Tower. 

You’ll work as a team with other participants, exploring the environment and watching your ideas come to life as you interact with your creations in real-time. Who will create the ultimate quest!? 

Whether you’re a budding game designer, illustrator, writer or just love exploring new things, VR Tower Quest is the ultimate school holiday adventure. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this epic experience!

  • What to Bring: Bring snacks, lunch, water, a hat, and your laptop or ipad if you have one, otherwise we’ve got one here for you. 
  • Suitable For: Ages 9-15 
  • Cost: $40 per participant 
  • Capacity: Capacity is strictly limited to the amount of equipment so please book early to reserve your spot. 
  • Accessibility: This event takes place at Carclew’s North Adelaide location with ramp access at the rear of the building. We will also have a sensory room available for chill out time. 

Here’s what you’ll get up to: 

Character Design & Story Creation:
Start your day by bringing your imagination to life! Whether you want to develop characters from pre-made templates or design your own from scratch, this is your chance to create something unique. You’ll also work on building exciting backstories and narratives that will tie your characters into an epic virtual adventure. 

3D Design & Programming:
Next, you’ll take your creations to the next level by learning how to bring them into the virtual world. With the guidance of our expert instructors, you’ll use Tinkercad, a 3D design tool, to upload your characters and stories. You’ll also get hands-on with immersive tech, including 360-degree cameras, learning how to capture dynamic visuals for your creations. 

Immersive VR Experience:
Now, it’s time for the real fun! With your characters and stories ready, you’ll step into a fully immersive VR world. Using Oculus VR equipment, you’ll interact with the virtual version of your designs and explore a world that’s been created from your imagination. It’s an experience you won’t forget, with everything you’ve created coming to life before your eyes. And don’t worry—your adventure will be streamed on a big screen so everyone can join in on the fun!

VoiceHouse at Carclew

This workshop will empower young people to unlock their voices by providing them with the skills, and confidence, in a supportive environment they need to explore their singing abilities. We aim to foster a sense of belonging through shared vulnerability, creativity, and collaboration in a choir setting. Unlock your voice. Explore Vulnerability in singing. Foster Community Connection!

What to Bring: We’ll have a few guitars on hand, but your guitar is your sidekick, don’t leave it behind!

Wednesday

Band! Zine!! Shoot!!!

Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm
Price: $40
Suitable for: Ages 13 – 17

Want to break into the music scene? Come hang out at our place these holidays for a day of jamming, zine-making, and photography workshops.

It’s your chance to hang out with local young creatives, dive into hands-on sessions, and pick up skills to level up your music game – think of it as your ultimate jam session (without noise complaints from your neighbours!)

Whether you’re itching to jam in a band, create a killer zine, or snap epic band photos, dive into the workshop that excites you most:

Band Practice: Team up with Alex from Stormy Lou and My Cherie for some laid-back band jamming. You’ll get real-world tips, tricks, and plenty of insider knowledge. Plus, there will be an opportunity to hit the stage and practice your moves with an audience at the end of the day. Bring your own instrument, or use ours—we’ve got you covered.

Zine-making workshop: Dive into the art of zine-making with Lilith from Runt! Records. Learn how to design and make your own zines to showcase your unique style. Whether it’s album art, behind-the-scenes stories, or just showing off your vibe, a zine is the perfect way to connect with fans and stand out. Supplies? Sorted. But if you’ve got any photos or mags that fit your style, don’t be shy—bring them and make it your own!

Photography Masterclass: Learn from the best in the business in this hands-on photography workshop. From social media shots to killer promo material, local legend Evie Wonder will help you create standout visuals that truly reflect who you are as an artist. No camera experience? No problem! Evie will run through all the basics. We’ll have the equipment on hand, but if your camera is your sidekick, don’t leave it behind!

These workshops will have a special collaborative element with bands, photographers and zine makers coming together to contribute to each others work. Come hang out, make some cool stuff, and meet new people. And hey, these are skills you might find handy as you dive deeper into the music scene.

It’s all about collaboration here. Bands, photographers, and zine makers will be working side by side, contributing to each other’s projects and creating something truly unique. Come chill, create, meet new people, and pick up skills that will help you navigate the music scene like a pro.

Songwriter’s Picnic

Suitable for: Ages 13 – 17

Ready to take your lyrics to the next level? Come hang out at our place these holidays and join singer-songwriters George Alice & Alex Hosking and write a brand-new track with singer-songwriters just like you.

Whether you’ve got a notebook full of lyrics or you’re just starting to write your first song, this is your chance to vibe learn from the best in the business, swap ideas, and share your music in a super chill, no-pressure environment.

We’ll be jamming, writing new songs together, and recording some fresh tracks right here in the garden—how cool is that? Plus, we’re bringing all the picnic essentials, so you can kick back, snack, and soak up the creative energy.

Best of all, you’ll get to record your demo at the end of the day and take it home!

Frequently Asked Questions:

What age are the workshops suitable for?  

Workshops are designed for young people aged between 5-17, with activities tailored to different age ranges. Please check eligibility criteria for certain activities.  

Do young people need prior experience in the arts?  

No prior experience is required! All skill levels are welcome, and our artist will guide our participants through each activity.  

What should participants bring?  

Participants should wear comfortable clothing, a water bottle, hat and bring snacks/lunch pending time and duration of the workshop. Specific details for your program will be on the Humanatix Booking Page. 

How do I register my young person?

What is the cost of the program?  

The cost of each workshop varies, please refer to each session for accurate pricing and concessions 

Can I stay with my child? 

Parents/Caregivers of children of school age are strongly encouraged to not stay during workshops and holiday events. This is in the best interests of the child/ group developmental learning and play. Carers and support staff of children and young adults are always welcome.

Children who are participating but not school ready may have an accompanying adult permitted, one per child only.
