Carclew Song Sessions is offering six young emerging Adelaide songwriters the opportunity to immerse themselves in a high-quality writing and production process alongside acclaimed songwriter Alex Hosking and award-winning producer Mario Späte.
Throughout the sessions, participants will refine their craft through:
⁃ hands-on songwriting assignments
⁃ collaborative projects
⁃ in-depth analysis of techniques employed by leading songwriters
⁃ professional guidance and peer feedback on their work in progress.
Successful applicants will spend 20 hours working directly with Mario & Alex at Danger Deer Studios in the Carclew stables and leave with a professionally mastered song.
Who is eligible for this project:
Adelaide-based artists aged 18-30 with songwriting experience. Preference is given to artists from marginalised communities.
What’s the application process?
You can apply by filling out the online application form.
This form asks for basic personal details and experience with music. You will also be asked to provide a recording of two original songs, these can be made on a phone/low quality recording. If you have any questions during your application please reach out to us, Carclew is very happy to help!
Once applications close, a panel of industry professionals and Carclew project staff will select 6 artists to work with. All applicants will be notified of the outcome whether they were successful or not.

What is the cost of the program?
Successful artists don’t need to pay for this experience, it is fully subsidised by Carclew.

Alex Hosking
Alex Hosking is an Adelaide-born internationally acclaimed singer, producer, DJ, and hit-making songwriter for renowned artists across the globe – and she started out just like you, scribbling lyrics in a notebook.

Mario Späte
Mario Späte is an Aria-nominated music producer, songwriter, and sound engineer based in South Australia. With a background that spans contemporary music, theatre, and television, Mario has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the Australian music industry.
Mario’s expertise in storytelling and dramatic composition has allowed him to leave a unique mark on the music scene, contributing to both established and emerging artists’ success. His involvement in high-profile projects and collaborations, such as with artists like Montaigne and Megan Washington, highlights his versatility and impact as a creative force in the industry.
