Carclew Song Sessions

Are you an emerging band in Adelaide, aged 15-21, ready to elevate your music career? The Song Sessions program is your backstage pass to the next level.

This immersive three-part experience offers:

  • Pre-Production & Industry Insight: Gain hands-on knowledge about the music industry, studio engineering, and live performance planning.
  • Studio Recording: Lay down one of your original tracks in a professional studio setting.
  • Live Performance: Showcase your new song at a celebratory gig.

Successful applicants will work with Interim Studios with guidance from acclaimed studio engineer Matt Schultz (The Empty Threats, Twine) and music educator Madeleine Cossey (The Vains, Junk Harmony), you’ll refine your craft with professional feedback, collaborate with new people and ROCK OUT!

Who is eligible for this project: 

Adelaide-based artists aged 15-21 with songwriting experience. Preference is given to artists from marginalised communities. 

What’s the application process? 

You can apply by filling out the online application form.

This form asks for basic personal details and experience with music. You will also be asked to provide a recording of two original songs, these can be made on a phone/low quality recording. If you have any questions during your application please reach out to us, Carclew is very happy to help!

Once applications close, a panel of industry professionals and Carclew project staff will select 3 artists to work with. All applicants will be notified of the outcome whether they were successful or not.

What is the cost of the program?  

Successful artists don’t need to pay for this experience, it is fully subsidised by Carclew.

Session 1: Pre-Production & Gig Planning

Date: Sunday 6th July (all bands)
Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Kick off your musical journey with a deep dive into the recording process alongside Matt from Interim Studios. This session is all about refining your sound – select a standout track from your setlist to focus on. Engage in constructive feedback sessions to polish your arrangements and performance. Additionally, you’ll collaborate on planning a live gig at Interim Studios with Madeleine, to showcase your new material at the end of the program!

Session 2: Studio Recording

Date: 13th July, 19th July, 20th July (one day per band)
Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Step into the studio and bring your music to life. Under Matt’s expert guidance, you’ll record your selected tracks in a professional setting, capturing the essence of your band’s unique sound. This is your opportunity to experience the recording process firsthand and produce high-quality versions of your songs. Walking away from the program with a recording mixed, mastered and ready to release!

Session 3: Live Performance at Interim Studios

Date: 27th July Gig (all bands)
Time: Afternoon/Evening Doors @ 2:00pm, Bands from 3:00-4:30pm.

Celebrate your hard work with a live performance at Interim Studios. This all-ages, accessible and free event is the culmination of your efforts through this program, providing a platform to debut your newly recorded songs, playing a 20-25 minute set. The program will be broadcasted on Channel 44, offering exposure, experience and connection to a wider audience with a chance to make a lasting impression in Adelaide’s music scene.
