Carclew’s 50th Anniversary Events

In 1971 Don Dunstan, Premier of South Australia, announced that Carclew House would become a centre for creative activities by and for young people under the name South Australian Performing Arts Centre for Young People, which was incorporated in 1972.

Fast forward 50 years and the ripple effect of Carclew’s work is monumental. Our history is made up of hundreds of thousands of promising futures that unfolded inside our historic building and within our various programs. Those artists and arts workers have taken their talent and ingenuity to the creative industries across Australia and around the world.

In addition, hundreds of thousands of South Australians have had a Carclew experience that introduced them to creativity and the arts as a way of making sense of, and celebrating, the world around them.

Small groups will be led on an immersive experience of the organisation’s history focusing on the program and event highlights offered throughout the years. Alongside the audio tours, visitors will experience contemporary visual and performative works by South Australian emerging artists that reflect, and respond to, Carclew’s many rich and varied arts programs.
